ABOUT QSG RESEARCH
Built for our desk.
Shared with yours.
We built the research we wanted to use: more detail, broader coverage and control over the questions we could ask.
Why we brought the work in-house.
For years, broker research was an important part of our workflow. Over time, it became increasingly expensive, and we had limited control over the coverage, the format and the level of detail.
We decided to build the datasets we needed ourselves. Doing that gave us control over the work, more granular information and a lower cost for our own research process. It also materially expanded what we could cover.
QSG and its traders still have access to and use broker research. Our own research is developed independently, in isolation from that work. It adds another resource to the desk.
Why share it?
What began as an internal resource became something we thought other traders could use. A carefully organized dataset can help a portfolio manager ask a better question, or give an emerging quantitative trader a starting point they did not know existed.
Our research informs the signals and strategies we eventually deploy. The distributed research is an input to that process; it is not the proprietary trading signals, portfolio construction or execution decisions that follow.
That distinction lets us share useful research without giving away the trading business built around it. Readers bring their own judgment, methods and risk decisions.
What we want this to become.
Our aim is to be useful across experience levels, from institutional portfolio managers to traders beginning to build quantitative research processes.
We plan to keep developing datasets that matter to our work. Where they can stand on their own as research without disclosing proprietary trading signals, we intend to make more of them available as products and add-ons.
The principle stays the same: build something useful enough to use ourselves, then make the detail available for others to evaluate.
